CLINTON, Tenn. (WVLT) - For years there’s been anticipation and excitement for the construction of a softball field at Clinton High School.

Plans had been in place for more than two years to build a field on the school campus, which would make them Title IX compliant.

Construction was quickly halted after a neighbor filed a lawsuit, claiming the field and its design impacted his home.

“It strained us a little bit especially walking into the season expecting to play on it and not getting to,” said senior Heaven Britt-Kimbriel.

While legal action continued, the Lady Dragons had to keep playing their games at the public Lakefront Park where they didn’t have their own facilities.

On Friday, for the team’s last games of the season, Clinton High School was able to play a doubleheader at the newly constructed field built on campus.

“It sends a huge message for girls underneath us that, ‘Hey we’re getting this done for you guys,’” said Britt-Kimbriel.

The team now has access to their own indoor batting cages and a field that they’re able to use and not share with other schools.

Friday’s games proved to be an exciting moment for the six seniors on the team who had been waiting for this field to become a reality for years.

In the final two games of the year, Clinton won 13-0 and 12-0.
