Anderson County Schools Awarded Food Insecurity – Food Truck Grant to Support Students During School Breaks
ANDERSON COUNTY, [05.20.2026] — Anderson County Schools, in conjunction with Anderson County Government, is proud to announce the establishment of the Food Insecurity–Food Truck Grant, an initiative designed to help address the nutritional needs of students who experience food insecurity when school is not in session. Through this grant, Anderson County Schools was able to purchase a food truck, named The Happy Lunch Box, that will provide a mobile, flexible way to deliver meals to children throughout the community.
The Happy Lunch Box will help deliver meals during extended school breaks, including Fall Break, Spring Break, Summer Break, Christmas Break, and unexpected weather-related closures. This new resource will help ensure that students who rely on school meals continue to receive consistent, nutritious nourishment even when campuses are closed.
By expanding access to meals beyond the traditional school setting, Anderson County Schools is supporting the overall health, well-being, and academic success of students across the district.
“We are incredibly excited to have The Happy Lunch Box as a resource for our students and our community,” said Paula Sellers (Director of Student Services). “This food truck will allow us to meet students where they are and continue supporting families during times when access to school meals may otherwise be limited. We are grateful for the partnership with County Government and for the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.”
The Food Insecurity–Food Truck Grant reflects Anderson County Schools’ ongoing commitment to removing barriers for students and ensuring they have the support they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
